Replacement UV lamp for a UV steriliser with a power input of 16 W. A UV steriliser is a device in which a special bulb intensively emits UV radiation; the lamp is hermetically sealed in a housing that does not transmit UV rays.
UV radiation is lethally dangerous to the vast majority of organisms and is therefore used to destroy algae, parasites, fungi, viruses, yeasts and bacteria in water without the use of chemicals. It is invisible electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of 4–400 nm and a frequency of 10¹⁵–10¹⁷ Hz, which is part of the solar spectrum and consists of the components UVA, UVB and UVC.
