Heat Pumps

A heat pump is the cheapest way to extend the pool season from April to October — from 1 kW of electricity it produces 5 kW or more of heat. This category offers models from 3 kW for small above-ground pools up to 120 kW units for public facilities, including inverter machines with cooling. How to choose the right output As a rule of thumb, plan 1 kW of output per 4–5 m³ of water for an outdoor pool with a cover; a 40 m³ pool therefore needs 8–10 kW. For early spring start-up or an uncovered pool, size one step up. Check the COP heating factor and operating temperature range — an inverter unit maintains higher efficiency under partial load and is noticeably quieter, while an on/off model is cheaper to buy. From roughly 15 kW upward, consider a 400 V supply (models marked 3F). Cooling is useful for covered pools where summer water temperature exceeds 30 °C. What to watch out for Always connect a heat pump via a bypass, so flow can be regulated and the unit serviced without stopping filtration. For saltwater pools, verify the unit has a titanium heat exchanger. Leave clear space around the unit for airflow and plan for condensate drainage.
