The DUKE A drop tester is used to determine the total alkalinity of water in a hot tub and pool, with approximately 100 measurements. Correctly set alkalinity stabilises pH, reduces the consumption of pH adjustment products and increases the effectiveness of chlorine. The tester is suitable for both chlorine and chlorine-free treatment. Optimal alkalinity is usually given in the range of 80-120 mg/l CaCO3 (1.6-2.4 mmol/l). Total alkalinity is also referred to as temporary or carbonate hardness.
Alkalinity determination
- Method: drop-by-drop titration, 1 drop = 10 mg/l CaCO3 = 0.2 mmol/l
- Reagents: A1 (120 determinations), A2 (600 drops)
The tester is supplied in a plastic blister and contains reagents, cups, instructions for use and technical information.
