The DUKE T drop tester is used to determine the hardness of water in a hot tub and pool, with approximately 100 measurements (the actual number depends on the magnitude of the value). Measuring hardness is important for proper water maintenance – high hardness reduces the effectiveness of pool chemistry and leads to limescale deposits on the walls and to scaling of the circulation circuit pipes.
Hardness determination
- Method: drop-by-drop titration in 1°N steps
- Reagents: T1 (120 determinations), T2 (120 determinations), T3 (600 drops)
Indicative values
The hardness of surface and ground water usually ranges from 2-30°N, in places up to 50°N. Water up to 8°N is soft, up to 25°N hard and above 25°N very hard. For pools, the range 11-20°N (2-3.5 mmol/l) can be considered optimal. The tester is supplied in a plastic blister with reagents, cups, instructions and technical information.
