The mechanical seal (shaft seal) of the New Contra pump is a key sealing element that separates the wet section of the pump from the dry electric motor. When the seal wears out, water leaks toward the bearings and windings, which can cause a short circuit and destruction of the motor.
The original seal is made of materials resistant to chlorinated water and pool chemicals, so it retains its tightness throughout its operational lifetime. We recommend carrying out the replacement preventively during the regular annual pump inspection or immediately after a water leak is detected.
A properly performed seal replacement extends the lifetime of the entire pump and prevents costly repair or replacement of the unit. Have the installation carried out by a service technician experienced in pool pump repairs.
