The designation 32 × 1 1/4″ ext. means a socket for a 32 mm pipe and a 1 1/4″ external thread. A compression bulkhead is tightened with a nut and can be loosened later, while a solvent-weld one is permanent. Inflatable plugs and repairs An inflatable plug temporarily closes off a pipe during winterising, pressure testing or repair – it is chosen by diameter range, for example 50–75 mm. For minor leaks in hidden pipework there is GLOO SEALER leak sealant, which is added to the water; visible damage to plastic can be repaired with a two-part epoxy compound or a repair stick for PVC, ABS and laminate. What to watch out for The in-water sealant can only cope with minor leaks – it is no substitute for a cracked pipe or a loose joint. Ordinary PVC adhesive does not hold on polypropylene and polyethylene, which is why we offer WEICON structural adhesive made specifically for PP and PE.
