Ozone or UV An ozoniser produces ozone, which is drawn through an injector into the flowing water and oxidises impurities and microorganisms. A UV-C lamp destroys microorganisms with radiation directly in the stream of water flowing past it. Both methods significantly reduce the consumption of chlorine or bromine, but do not replace them entirely – a small amount of disinfectant must remain in the water to work beyond the lamp. When to replace parts A UV bulb loses efficiency before it stops glowing – replace it according to the manufacturer's recommendation, usually once a year. The quartz tube around the bulb needs to be cleaned of deposits, otherwise it weakens the radiation. In an ozoniser, the non-return valve that stops water flowing back into the unit wears out, as does the hose between the ozoniser and the injector. How to find the right part Bulbs and tubes are not universal – they differ in length, base and power. Look for the part by the brand and model of your system (for example ClearRay for Sundance and Jacuzzi hot tubs, WAVETEC254 for Balboa) or by the order number on the old part.
