For family pools, plan for a speed up to 50 m/h: a 500 mm diameter tank handles roughly 9 m³/h, 600 mm about 14 m³/h. Pool pump flow rate must match the tank size — a stronger pump won't improve filtration, it will instead push debris back through the sand bed into the pool. For public facilities, design for a speed up to 30 m/h with a deeper filter bed (1.0–1.2 m). What to watch out for Check the valve connection type (TOP on the lid vs. SIDE), pipe diameter and the media grade specified by the tank manufacturer. Replace sand every 2–3 seasons; AFM glass lasts considerably longer and reduces biofilm formation. Always drain the tank before winterising — frost will crack even laminate.
